Whiskey Sour Three Ways
Enjoy these spins on an all-time favorite featuring the flavors of St. Augustine Distillery!
Bourbon has often earned a reputation as a cold-weather spirit: think Old Fashioneds, Hot Toddies, or a nice neat pour enjoyed in front of a roaring fire. However, our Florida Straight Bourbon is ideal for the thick of winter, the dog days of summer, or any day in between!
We’ve already shown you how to make a delicious Mint Julep with our bourbon, but now we’re back with another sweet and summery bourbon beverage: a classic Whiskey Sour. In fact, we’re back with five different variations! Read on to learn how we’re putting a spin on this classic with the flavors of Florida and much, much more.
Traditional Whiskey Sour
Ol’ reliable, tried and true, this is the best-known iteration of the whiskey sour. Florida Straight Bourbon, lemon juice, and simple syrup come together for a sweet and tart treat perfect for any time of year.
In addition to the three ingredients above, a traditional whiskey sour incorporates an egg white, creating a foamy head on the top of the drink. This foam perfectly complements the tartness of the beverage, though it can certainly be made without this addition. As another optional treat, you can top your whiskey sour with a bitter garnish, including sour cherry, black walnut, or dark chocolate.

RECIPE: Traditional Whiskey Sour
INGREDIENTS
2 oz St. Augustine Distillery Florida Straight Bourbon
1 oz pure lemon juice
.75 oz simple syrup
1 egg white (optional)
Dark Chocolate, Black Walnut, or Sour Cherry (for garnish)
DIRECTIONS
Combine all ingredients in a shaker. If using egg white, do a dry shake (no ice) until the beverage becomes foamy. Then, add ice and shake for an additional 30 seconds.
Strain into a stemmed goblet or coupe glass. Top egg foam with your desired garnish and serve chilled.
New York Sour
The New York Sour isn’t far off from the classic, but there is one key difference: the topping. Rather than the incorporation of egg white foam, a New York Sour is topped with a red wine float. This adds a slight sweetness and dryness to the traditional flavor.
This sweetness calls for a slight variation of garnish: rather than something bitter, the New York Sour is best garnished with an orange and cherry combo. This medley of flavors is unique, fresh, and perfect for a warm afternoon.

Ginger Sour
Ginger and bourbon are no strangers, as evidenced by the classic Whiskey Ginger or the newer “Kentucky Mule.” Here at St. Augustine Distillery, we prefer to call it the Ginger Sour, a delicious sweet, citrusy, and slightly spiced blend of our Florida Straight Bourbon and Florida Mule Mix.
Like its grapefruit counterpart, the Ginger Sour achieves the perfect flavor by being shaken with plenty of ice. The garnish, however, differs slightly: rather than using a grapefruit wedge, this drink is best complemented by a lemon or orange wedge alongside a piece of candied ginger.
