Old City Hot Toddy

Hot Toddy Recipe

There aren’t many cold days here in Florida, but when they do come around, there’s nothing like an Old City Hot Toddy to warm you right up! This comforting cocktail combines our Florida Straight Bourbon with hot water, lemon juice, cinnamon and star anise for a tart, spiced, and warming drink that pairs perfectly with a roaring fire!

The origins of the Hot Toddy are a subject of hot debate: the Hindi word “taddy” refers to a hot alcoholic beverage made with hot water, sugar, and spices, and some believe that British nationals took a liking to the beverage during their period of colonization. The other story involves an Irish physician named Robert Bentley Todd, who prescribed his patients a mixture of hot water, brandy, sugar, and cinnamon. The truth likely lies somewhere in the middle, as British soldiers returned home with a taste for the beverage, which helped to beat the gloomy winters back home.

St. Augustine Distillery Bourbon Barrel-Aged Honey gives this drink some extra flavor, with notes of brown sugar and oak to complement the bright lemon and full-bodied spice. Whether you use it for your Hot Toddy, tea, or as a drizzle over your favorite foods, grab a bottle at our retail shop or online store.
