St. Augustine Distillery’s Pot Distilled Rum and New World Gin both won gold medals at the recent 2016 Los Angeles Spirits Competition (LAISC) held in May at the Sheraton Fairplex Hotel in Pomona, Calif.
“Both our gin and rum were given scores of 90 points, which is a personal best for us and a distinguished industry score,” said Philip McDaniel, CEO and co-founder of St. Augustine Distillery. “We were up against some of the top spirits in the world, and took home two additional gold medals to add to our collection. Over the past two years, we’ve medaled in every competition that we’ve entered.”
Since 2007, the Los Angeles International Spirits Competition has helped set the standard for judging distilled beverages. This year, more than 400 spirits were entered from nearly 150 producers from 29 countries around the world. The judging was conducted using a blind-tasting method featuring an esteemed panel of 20 industry experts.
“We are producing world class spirits using regional agriculture in a sustainable and responsible way,” said McDaniel. “With our bourbon set for a fall release, which was the first bourbon whiskey in Florida to be put into barrel for aging since Prohibition, St. Augustine Distillery is proud to bring Florida spirits to the forefront of artisanal distillation.”
